Stewardship through homesteading

God created man in His image and gave him dominion over the earth, charging us to be good stewards of his gift. Stewardship of His gifts is one of the original commands given to Adam & Eve.
Genesis 1:26-28 “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Genesis 2:15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.
How have we done to keep care of His gift?

The earth dries up and withers, the world languished and

withers, the exalted of the earth languish. The earth lies under its inhabitants;for they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, and broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore a curse consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt. Isaiah 24:4-6.

As for you, my flock… Is it not enough for you to feed on
good pasture? Must you also trample the rest of your pasture with your feet? Is it not enough for you to drink clear water? Must you also muddy the rest with your feet? Ezekiel 34:17-18
My involvement in organic gardening, aquaponics, beekeeping, etc is more than just a bunch of  hobbies for an old man. It is God’s directive to concern myself with utilizing His gifts properly: Both taking care of the planet and aiding those in need; giving the glory and honor to God that I am able to do so.
Proverbs 3:9 Honor the Lord with thy substance and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
Homesteading, to many, is only a way to be more self-sufficient or save money in a tough economy. To me, although those reasons may be why I started, it is so much more now.
Whether I am working the land, doing my part to save the environment, or helping those in need I hope that I am fulfilling God’s directive to me to show honor to Him by being a good steward of His gift’s.
