Two nights ago our first real feel of winter marched upon us-near zero with wind chills to 25 below. I have been waiting, even worrying slightly whether my greenhouse construction was going to maintain the heat that I hoped it would.
I could not sleep well thinking about so rose from bed and went to the greenhouse to check temperature at 5:30am. Nervously opening greenhouse door, I felt relieved that warmth came from inside. But anything warmer than 25 below would feel good would it not? I was relieved when I looked at the thermometer:
Ok I guess I got a pretty good construction review from old man winter! With three 200-gallon fish tanks and all the plants in the aquaponics system, I am truly happy we spent the extra time and money on extra insulation.
So last night was our biggest snow of the year so far. Still snowing a little but I think we got around 6″, and temperatures in the low single digits. The greenhouse looked pretty good this morning.
With the temperature in the single digit and snow covered, I am pretty happy with the inside temperature as well:
I would have to say I am pretty happy with our results. All the plants and fish seem to be happy as well!
